Kuurosokeusalan pohjoismainen webinaari: Today’s knowledge for tomorrow’s actions

Pohjoismainen hyvinvointikeskus (Nordic Welfare Centre) järjestää verkossa kuurosokeusalan miniwebinaarin, joka tarjoaa esimakua 13-15.9.2022 siirtyneestä Tampere-talossa järjestettävästä Pohjoismaisesta konferenssista. Puhujat ovat Pohjoismaiden johtavia asiantuntijoita omilla osaamisalueillaan. Suomesta Åbo Akademin tutkija Riku Virtanen pitää luennon aiheenaan ihmisoikeudet. Hän toimii Euroopan alueellisena edustajana Kuurosokeiden Maailmanliitossa. Luvassa on tiiviitä ja asiapitoisia esityksiä ja mahdollisuus myös osallistua keskusteluun. Suomen Kuurosokeat ry on mukana järjestelyissä.

13.20 Practicing theory – a young field’s (re-)discovery of knowledge Dr Paul Hart, Head of Research and Practice, Sense Scotland

This short presentation will highlight examples from our history where quality practice was/is:

– ahead of theory
– subsequently better understood by viewing it through the lens of existing theory
– being driven by the application of theory through research

The presentation will also give you a glimpse of some philosophical and practice discussions
from over 200 years ago, that were arguably forgotten as our field developed practice anew
from the 1960s.

14.00 Human Rights: from declarations to real action
Riku Virtanen, researcher at Åbo Akademi University and European regional representative in WFDB

Freedoms and fundamental rights belong to all people. However, persons with
deafblindness were seen as patients and objects of action for a long time. In recent years,
there is progress towards becoming an equal subject of society. Through real-life stories,
strengthening freedoms, offer a better life for all of us.
